Using Copic Airbrush System (ABS)

Copic Airbrush System is the best airbrush system for personal use. It is hassle-free and super easy to use. Copic Ciao cannot be used with ABS. Only Copic Classic and Sketch markers can be used.

The Copic ABS contains an Air Grip which can be used with an air adapter or an air can. Aligning the marker tip with the air grip nozzle is very important. Copic Classic marker must be inserted from “Broad Nib” side and the Copic Sketch marker must be inserted from “Medium Broad Nib” side.

Tips and Tricks

The spray area depends on the pressure applied on the trigger and also the distance of the nib from the surface. You can experiment with applying different pressures on the nib to create different types of textures. Ideal spray distance is 1-2 inches. Always spray in one direction for even results. Slow movement can result in darker spray areas. Using the marker with the airbrush uses lesser ink than using the markers directly. You can use stencils or masks for fine borders and sharp edges. Air Can may become cold after 1-2 minutes of continuous usage and that's completely normal. Let the Can warm up for some seconds before spraying again and this will avoid patchy sprays. For prolonged use, you can use an air adapter with an air compressor.

Creating Backgrounds

Start by testing the color on a sample paper. Adjust the marker so that a perfect air spray is achieved without any patches. Apply masking tape or stencil mask on the subject. Apply light color tones first and then gradually move to applying darker tones or changing color. Make sure your hand moves in one direction. If you want to create a blurry light effect, place a circular stencil after applying the light tone and then apply darker tone around it to create the desired effect. Personally, I use Copic ABS and I find it perfect for creating quick backgrounds and avoid messing up the colors.
